Interview: Rising R&B Star Ca$hMa$e

CashMase caught our attention with his No Groupies music video. He clearly has a great voice and ear for melodies, learn more about where CashMase comes from and where he’s going with our exclusive interview!

Who are you?

I was raised in San Diego, California. As a kid I grew up with 4 older sisters and my mom who struggled to keep us in a steady home. Singing, rapping, and writing was like therapy for me while watching my mom struggle as we moved from place to place. I was fortunate enough to always get sponsored by coaches to play baseball, football, and basketball which kept me out of trouble.

In high school. I performed at lunch time rap battles and was the MC for all school assemblies. Music was my passion but I knew that my skills on the football field is what would get me out of my unstable situation at home. I was able to earn a full ride football scholarship to Montana State University. After a mediocre career I went on to play arena football and also in Europe.

Throughout all that time I continued writing, recording, and building connections to help with my music career. After establishing all these connections I then decided to put the pads away for good and began to focus on my music career.

How did you get into making music?

My family was always loud and singing like a choir in the living room. No matter what song it was everybody always joined in. I grew up idolizing Jagged Edge, Dru Hill, Voices of Theory, 112, and NSYNC. Lol. After seeing all those group’s videos I knew I wanted to make my own music.

What’s the inspiration behind the song and music video?

My inspiration behind “No Groupie” comes from experiences I had with relationships in college. Teammates would tryda push me away from certain women by calling them a groupie. I would ignore them though because I judge someone by my own experience and not by word of mouth. The visuals in my the video shows 2 sides to a story. It shows a woman I’m involved with at a bench hanging out with someone but the audience doesn’t know who it is. Could be a friend or maybe even a date. Either way in the end I judged things for myself which was the moral to the story.
