Interview: Going for Pop Music Gold with Haley J

Haley J’s outstanding music video for Gold put her on our radar. We talk to her about inspiration and what the future holds for this bright talent.

Who are you?

I’m a senior at FSU, studying media communications. I know my dream is to pursue music but I also know school is important. If I can’t be the girl on stage, I’ll at least be the girl in on the action as an interviewer finding out more about what makes me the most passionate.

How did you get into making music?

I felt like I was going through the motions of life, without really being alive. Music brought me back to life. It made me look forward to each day because there’s always something different that I could record or new lyrics I could write. The idea of having nothing turn into everything keeps me motivated. I got really lucky and met my now good friend, Casio McCombs who really gave me my start and believed in me. I owe him a lot. Music is also timeless. One day I’ll be gone, but my music won’t be.

What’s the inspiration behind the song and music video?

When I write, I like to take on the persona of a badass. So usually the girl singing is cooler than I actually am. Haha. It’s like an alter ego for me. Gold is essentially about feeling unstoppable. It’s about that one night in your life you feel so confident that the fear of not being good enough could never hold you back. You’re so hot, you’re dripping in gold, and tonight, you’re getting exactly what you came for.

What should fans look out for?

Right now I’m working on my demo to finish and release. My next two tracks on the way are titled “Playing with Fire” and “Disease”

Anything else to share? How can fans get in touch?

I’m a little obsessed with social media so you can always get in touch with me via Twitter or Instagram. I’m also pretty good with checking my email so that works too. 🙂
