We had to talk with Leggacy after seeing his haunting music video for Can’t Be Mine. Discover the struggles this up-and-coming artist has faced and what Leggacy has in store for the future!
Who are you?
Tyler Leggat, professionally known as, Leggacy is a Singer/Rapper/Songwriter/Engineer based in Atlanta, Ga. Born September 8th, 1992, in Riverdale, Ga he was introduced to music at an early age. At the age of 11, Leggacy, got his first home studio. Literally starting from the bottom he taught himself how to mix his own tracks. With no financial assistance, Leggacy landed himself into his first production deal, which he polite-fully declined. Choosing to take the rough, independent route, he has been releasing singles, mixtapes, and music video’s
religiously. There is a lot more to learn about Leggacy; and the best way to get to know him is by listening to his music.
How did you get into making music?
Leggacy was first introduced to music, by his Grandfather, who sang doo-wop in Bronx, NY in the early 1960’s. Growing more in tune to his generation’s genre’s, he quickly began picking up hip hop, rap, pop, rock, etc… As Leggacy became more inspired to follow his musical dreams, school became less important. Eventually, early into his sophomore year, he was expelled from his high school. Now that he had
more time on his hands, Leggacy began to sit in his home studio, staring at the computer screen for numerous hours at a time, teaching himself how to mix his own vocals. Ever since he has started, he has never looked back.

What’s the inspiration behind the song and music video?
Interestingly enough, this song almost broke Leggacy. At this time, he was experiencing his first love’s heartbreak(not his doing.) This song was inspired by his ex-girlfriend who struggled from a heroin addiction. As he was willing to do anything within his power to help her beat her addiction, she moved in with her heroin dealer. Leggacy, feeling like he had been stabbed in the heart multiple times, decided to finally write about it on paper. In the process, he contemplated suicide but luckily avoided that disastrous situation by writing, “Can’t Be Mine.”
Leggacy’s manager, Jamar Limbacker, knew everything that was going on with Leggacy’s relationship. As he knew Leggacy was on the verge of letting go, he asked the young recording artist to pack up his things and move into his basement. In doing so, this is where the idea of the music video came into play. The whole concept of the video was thought up between Leggacy and Mr. Limbacker in the basement where Leggacy was staying. “The vibe of the basement had a creepy, yet comfortable feel, so we decided that we would shoot the video at home,” says Leggacy.
This video takes place in the mind of a frustrated partner. With a heart torn to pieces, the frustrated partner decides it is time to take matters into their own hands. As the video progresses, it shows what has come between the two partner’s, and what has led to their current status. Your questions may not be answered; and the answers may bring more questions.
